Monica was born in Colombia. She has sung for opera companies, classical music choruses, orchestras and ensembles and has been a member of contemporary classical groups and Hispanic and Latin folk groups. Monica completed a Master Degree in Arts specializing in contemporary vocal repertoire. She was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2005 Dartington International Summer School; there, she performed the Ladino solo in Noham Seriffs Sephardic Passion.
Monica's interest in Tango-Songs goes back from the time she lived in her native Colombia. For 5 years Monica was based in the city of Medellin which has a very strong Tango tradition and is considered the second tango capital of Latin-America after Buenos Aires. There, she performed informally in several private functions and venues. At establishing TangoDuo Monica goes back to her Latin-American roots and language, returning to the long-forgotten music and tradition where she started from as a singer.
Monica has performed in several venues and festivals included the Spitz, Cargo, Glastonbury 2003, Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Hub at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Barbican, London Coliseum ENO, etc.
Future engagements include collaborations with composers and the performance/recording of new vocal pieces based in the style and vocal techniques of Hispanic and Latin-American music. For more information visit:
